My wife and I have recently returned from a weeks holiday on Arran and we would like to thank the people of Arran for a lovely week.
Everybody we spoke to in shops on buses were friendly and pleasant.
The only down side which was nothing to do with the island folk was the amount of litter on the seafront at Brodick, not I suspect from locals but probably mainlanders who dont know what litter bins are for and there are plenty of them on Arran at one stage I thought plastic bottles must grow on trees the amount I removed from bushes and hedges.
But never mind we had a great week and we will be back soon.

It seems worth mentioning that Cairn House farm is situated on the site of the former very large cairn which provided the stones for the old houses of Blackwaterfoot. The gold dagger was found when the foundation for the mill rink was being excavated. Also it was here,in1959,that pony trekking was first introduced to Arran. Fifty years ago there were fewer than ten riding horses on the island.

If you are looking for somewhere to stay in the South of Arran, I can recommend www.laggwoodcottage.com. It is a self catering holiday home that sleeps 6 people. It has log fires and Kilmory water flows through the garden meaning you have a private fishing spot (buy a licence at the Kildonan campsite)

I noticed in the banner, which you send me each week, that you have a new publication of Holiday Arran.
As I own one of the Apostles I wondered if you would be kind enough to send me a couple of copies of this paper.
I hope this is possible,
thankyou,
E Cowan

The name Sliddery could also come from Sleigh de rei - way of the king. This would tie in with the Kings Cross further South. The king could be Bruce on his way to the caves at Blackwaterfoot or refer to Kildonan castle and the royal seat mentioned above??

Last time I played Lamlash Golf Course, it had 18 holes. Has John Thomson bought half the course for more new housing?
