It seems worth mentioning that Cairn House farm is situated on the site of the former very large cairn which provided the stones for the old houses of Blackwaterfoot. The gold dagger was found when the foundation for the mill rink was being excavated. Also it was here,in1959,that pony trekking was first introduced to Arran. Fifty years ago there were fewer than ten riding horses on the island.

If you are looking for somewhere to stay in the South of Arran, I can recommend www.laggwoodcottage.com. It is a self catering holiday home that sleeps 6 people. It has log fires and Kilmory water flows through the garden meaning you have a private fishing spot (buy a licence at the Kildonan campsite)

The name Sliddery could also come from Sleigh de rei - way of the king. This would tie in with the Kings Cross further South. The king could be Bruce on his way to the caves at Blackwaterfoot or refer to Kildonan castle and the royal seat mentioned above??
